Mauritania and Senegal January/February 2025
Todd and Donette flew to Paris for a few days in mid-January before taking a charter flight from Paris to Atar, Mauritania. In Paris, they visited the newly-opened Notre Dame Cathedral and the Museum d Orsay as well as having dinner with a Parisian climbing friend.
Once in Mauritania, they climbed at Ben Amera and MHaireth, doing five new routes. They also visited the World Heritage Sites of Ouadane and Chinguetti, as well as the beautiful oasis of Terjit.
It was then on to Dakar, Senegal where they climbed established routes on the fabulous sea cliff in the city. After that, they visited with a Senegalese archaeologist they had met in Saint Croix as part of the Atlantic Slave Trade interpretive work Todd had done with the National Park Service in 2016-17.
