Sao Tome & Principe

Sao Tome & Principe and Portugal – August 2026

Donette and Todd visited the island nation of Sao Tome and Principe, transiting through Portugal in both directions.

In Portugal, they explored more of Lisbon, to include taking in a Fado dinner show. They also took a train to Evora and wandered that city.

On Sao Tome, they explored the historic city as well as traveling down the stunning coast of the island, hoping for a glimpse of the Cao Grande tower. 

On Principe, they did exploratory rock climbing (three new routes), attended a community festival and provided three days of rescue training to 14 of the island’s firefighters. With support from Mad Rock, Fixe USA and Cliffhanger Guides, they donated 100 pounds of rescue gear to the fire department (hardware, ropes, packs, etc.).

In between, some of the very best fish meals were eaten and wonderful times spent with new friends on both islands.
